After being in the field of Early Childhood Education over 30 years, I became re-inspired by the forward thinking that was beginning to happen in the late 90's and early 2,000's!  Bringing play into the classroom, having children spend time exploring the outside world, and giving ourselves permission to believe in children and follow their lead and interests, opened a whole new world to children and teachers!

As I began to learn more about the schools of Reggio Emilia, I was intrigued by the thoughtful approach they had to the education of young children. I first learned of the municipality of Reggio Emilia in 2009 through advanced studies at the University of Maine.  As I continued my work with early childhood programs in Southern Maine, I was able to implement and try out some of these practices - finding that the Reggio Emilia culture and the support of the municipality of Reggio, strongly influences their schools.

In 2019 my next journey began! I took part in a Study Tour and traveled to Reggio Emilia, Italy.  During this extensive study, I was privileged to visit the schools, talk with teachers, and learn from the Pedagogista and Atelierista, while exploring the principles underpinning the Reggio approach. Being immersed in the concepts, contents, culture and values that make up the city's municipal infant, toddler and preschool centers, further supported my enthusiasm for the teaching and learning of young children.

Combining this approach with our philosophy of how young children learn best, rounds out the enriched curriculum that we offer.  I am excited every day to share this inspiration and approach with the staff, children and community here at Children's Enrichment.
